Google’s John Mueller said that when it comes to breadcrumbs, the links you see on the page can tell you where to click. The location and location of these breadcrumbs is not important for SEO. John said, “No, this position is not vital to SEO.”
John explained: “We use breadcrumbs to crawl (find internal links) and get rich results (structured data); none depends on the location of the breadcrumbs.” But he said, as long as you can combine these breadcrumbs where the crumbs go on the page, as long as Google can find them, it doesn’t matter for SEO.
Great question — no, the placement doesn’t matter for SEO. We use breadcrumbs for crawling (finding internal links) & for rich results (structured data); both don’t depend on placement of the breadcrumbs.
